As a team, we have planned various whole school events such as: bling your bike day, walk to school week, the big pedal and a few Dr Bike session (a bike mechanic comes and checks the children’s bike).
The children have also been a part of helping Kirsty and Aimee-Claire (who are the Sustrans Active Travel Co-ordinators) organise these events during regular meetings, and even leading assemblies to inform the rest of the school. They have also helped her decide where the new scooter racks were going to go.
We have also discussed what other things we can do to help the environment. We have thought about ensuring that lights are switched off and that there is no litter on the floor, as well as, still encouraging children to actively travel to school, instead of using transport that can harm our environment.
Our next steps will be looking at holding more whole school activities that encourage children to travel to school in more active ways.
We will also want to get a compost bin to put all the skins or cores from our healthy snacks in. That should generate good compost, which in time, we can then use to start redoing our flower and vegetable beds.
