Dear Parents/Carers,

Poppy Appeal – We raised a fantastic £306.98, thank you

This week, we have all been celebrating ‘World Kindness Day’ and Friendship week. During this morning’s assembly, each class shared the pictures, posters and messages that they had been working on during the week and these will be displayed in the hall as a reminder of the importance of friendships in our lives. A powerful message came from the Year 4 pupils who had decorated paper hearts…only to scrunch them up! The message? How important it is to look after each other and to be very careful about the words we say as each one leaves an imprint on others’ hearts; even when we apologise, sometimes, there can still remain an imprint of unkindness which is difficult to remove.

On the theme of kindness, our collection for Children in Need today has raised a fabulous £355.00. Thank you for your donations and for raising smiles with all the lovely outfits and Pudsey related accessories that the children have been wearing today!

Christmas Fayre – FRIDAY 1st December 3:30pm – 6pm

Next Friday, 24Th November, children may come dressed on the theme of Christmas or in non-uniform in exchange for the following donations (please remember that children will be going out to play in their Christmas clothes, so best party clothes, long dresses etc. are probably not advisable for safety reasons).

We would like children in Reception to bring in small or unwanted gift sets for both men and women

Years 1, 2 & 3 Chocolate for the Chocolate Tombola and Years 4, 5 & 6 bottles for the bottle tombola.

As always we are looking for volunteers, we are in desperate need of help from 3pm – 7pm on Fri 1st Dec

Just 30 minutes of your time would make a huge difference to help raise money for your children. If you are able to offer any help please go to the face book page www.facebook.com/groups/friendsofmeadvale

On Monday 27th November, we shall be holding a teddy bear amnesty where we would like children to bring in their un-wanted teddy bears (please make sure that any teddy’s brought in are in a good and clean condition). Please hand these teddy bears to Mrs Bonney in Year 4. Thank you

Reminder for Year 3 and 4 parents– You are invited to hear your children sing a few of the songs from the Raise the Roof festival next Tuesday 21st November at 3pm in the school hall.

Reading - As you know, reading is a huge focus for us at Mead Vale as we understand what a powerful impact this has on children’s progress and their attainment in all areas of the curriculum…and on their test and exam results…even their success and salary in later life. When children read aloud, this helps with writing progress as they understand the need for punctuation and about correct grammar. Believe it or not, regular reading with an adult also has a positive effect on children’s self-esteem, their contentment and it has a calming effect on behaviour at school.

I’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone that I’ve spoken to on the phone this week to give a reminder about reading at least 3 times per week with your child… and to record this in your child’s reading record. Your support is really appreciated!
