1st December 2017

Dear Parents/Carers,

As advised in our letter on the 13th October we received an Academy Order which enables the school to convert to a Multi Academy Trust (MAT). I’m happy to inform you that we are on schedule to transfer to the ELAN MAT (Bournville, Windwhistle, Walliscote, Oldmixon, Milton Park and Locking) on the 1st February 2018.

We seem to have a small outbreak of chicken pox in Years 1 and 2. Please may I remind you that children are not able to come back into school until all spots have crusted over.

We have been reviewing the way we will be dealing with courtesy calls going forward… we often make calls for children who have bumped heads leaving no marks or discomfort for the child. We have decided to trial using white slips with no calls home for these types of bumps. We will still call parents and send orange slips home for those children who have bumped their heads and have lumps or marks from the bump.

The PTFA raised a fabulous £112net profit from last Friday’shot dog sales – thank you for your continued support.

Christmas is an exciting time for all children, and the long run up to the big day can result in over-stimulated children by the time it arrives. For our children on the Autistic Spectrum the lack of usual routines, sudden changes, unusual happenings together with noises, bright colours and lights and lots of people can result in real distress.  Have a look at this link for ideas to help your child cope more easily with Christmas. http://www.autism.org.uk/christmas

Lego Therapy Sessions – Thank you for the Lego donations kindly sent in so far. We are still looking for a few more items so if you are able to donate any Lego please bring it to the school office; your support is most appreciated. Thank you. Mrs Ryan (SENDCo)

Reading:

Thank you to all of you who have been listening and reading with your child at least 3 x per week. This really makes a massive difference to their learning in all areas of school, and the research shows that this also improves their life chances – enabling them to do better in all areas of the curriculum and even to attain better GCSE results…and improving their chances of earning well when they start work.

This week, the percentages of pupils in each class who are reading to an adult at least 3x per week are:

Herons: 78%                 Sparrows:  57%                        Flamingos: 42%                        Puffins: 48%

Magpies: 50%               Wagtails: 67%              Canaries: 47%              Toucans:  37%

Starlings:  41%                         Ravens: 46%                 Robins: 52%                 Woodpeckers:  52%

We will soon be including the percentages of the Reception classes.

Each week, classes whose percentage is 80% or higher will get a marble in their jar!

Please know that if there is anything we can do to support you with this, you are most welcome to come and see us!

Early Close – For those parents who would like to collect your child early on the last day of term (Tuesday 19th December), you are able to do so from 1:30pm. The playground gates will be open at 1.30 pm. Teachers or teaching assistants will be at classroom doors to ensure that children are safely matched with their parents or carers. Please do not go into children’s classrooms.  Children will not be allowed to go home on their own.

If your child is to be collected by someone other than the usual person that collects them, please let us know. The playground gates will be closed at 1.45 pm.

Any parents wishing to collect children after 1.45 pm must please come to the school office and your child will be brought to you. The playground gate will be opened at 3.10 pm as usual and locked at 3.30 pm.

Top Table - This week Thomas, Cameron, Kieran, Brooklyn, Viktor, Sarah and Ruby (from Starling class) have been chosen by the lunchtime supervisors to join the ‘Top Table’ for having super behaviour, good manners and using their cutlery well (if they have hot dinners). Well done everyone!
