12th January 2018

Dear Parents/Carers,

This term children will be discussing e-safety issues and learning about how to stay safe online. There is an e-safety day coming up in February and we shall be joining a huge number of organisations in celebrating this day with themed activities.

From our initial discussions with children, it has become apparent that some Mead Vale pupils are using Facebook and Snapchat. The recommended age for these sites is 13 and so we would respectfully ask that you bear this in mind when deciding what your child is allowed to access. These guidelines have been put in place to keep children safe and to ensure young people are emotionally mature enough to act responsibly and understand the potential dangers in communicating online.  Thank you

PE News

20 children from Years 5 and 6 represented Mead Vale at the Sports Hall Athletics competition at Hutton Moor on Wednesday morning. The children competed in various sprinting races, as well as a number of field events, such as the standing triple jump and the speed bounce. The team performed brilliantly in all of their events and managed to come third place overall, winning themselves a bronze medal. The behaviour of all of the children was impeccable throughout and they really did themselves and our school proud. Well done to the athletics team! #teammeadvale

There will be a competition on the day - stickers will be placed on the bottom of plates at random and the winners will receive skipping ropes to help them stay active and healthy.

Top Table - This week Milo, Olivia, Nicholas, Marco, Matilda and Freya (from Mallard class) have been chosen by the lunchtime supervisors to join the ‘Top Table’ for having super behaviour, good manners and using their cutlery well (if they have hot dinners). Well done everyone!

Attendance– Three times a year our computer lists the names of pupils who have less than 90% attendance. This is an automatic procedure and it is irrelevant why the child was absent. I am very aware that there are many justifiable absences e.g. illness, but I am obliged to inform all parents if your child’s absence falls below set levels. The desired attendance is 95% or more. These letters will be sent out on Monday, 15th January. Parents of children, who have a level of absence which is of concern, will receive a totally different letter and our Educational Welfare Officer would be involved. If you have any concerns regarding this please leave a message on the absence line together with your telephone number and we will phone you back.
