Term 6

Exploring Fish

We read the texts, 'The Rainbow Fish' and 'Commotion in the Ocean' We looked at different sea creatures. As scientists we investigated how fish can move and breathe.  We learnt that fish have scales, gills to breathe under the water and cold blood.  We made observational drawings of the real fish.

Teal Class enjoyed planting strawberry plants.  They have looked after them, and observed how the flowers grow then change to green strawberries.  This week the children noticed how they had ripened and turned red.  A delicious treat!

Term 5

Jubilee Celebrations

We finished the term with our whole school Jubilee Celebrations.  It was lovely to see so many parents in school.  The children enjoyed their icecream, Jubilee treasure hunt and performing the song they had learnt with the rest of Key Stage One.  Happy Holidays!

We have started this term by looking at the story, 'Handa's Surprise', a story based in Africa.  The children have enjoyed looking at similarities and differences of an African village and where we live.  They have learnt some African songs, enjoyed drumming and created some beautiful artwork.

Term 4

Jack and the Beanstalk - re-telling the story to our friends at pre-school.

We learnt to re-tell the story of Jack and the Beanstalk using a story map to help us.  We went to see our friends at the preschool and showed them the story we had learnt.  We are looking forward to inviting them into our classroom next term.

Teal Class Assembly

The children were so excited to share their learning and perform the songs they have been learning this term.  It was lovely to see so many parents in school - thank you for joining us.

PE Fun

We have had lots of fun developing our balancing skills.

We have been enjoying the lovely sunshine and exploring the school grounds looking for signs of Spring.  We found blossom, catkins, daffodils and even a birds nest!  We heard the birds singing to each other.  What have you noticed out and about?

World Book Day 2022

Teal Class love stories and books, on World Book Day the children enjoyed dressing up  as a character from a book and talking about their favourite books.

The children visited the school library and had stories read to them by their Year 6 friends - thank you Year 6!

We started the term by reading the text 'Mr Wolf's Pancakes' A story full of traditional characters, with a twist in the tale!  We had lots of fun making, cooking and eating our own pancakes.  We learnt about 'Shrove Tuesday' and the traditions at the start of Easter.

As a class we couldn't decide what our favourite topping was, it was a close call between lemon and sugar or plain!

Term 3

Dinosaur Adventures

A very exciting package arrived for Teal class, an egg!  The children predicted what might be in it.

After a few days a crack appeared in the egg and then overnight a baby dinosaur hatched! Then it disappeared!

We found some pictures on CCTV of a Mummy dinosaur looking for it, she left us a letter asking for our help.  The children worked together to  build dinosaur traps and try and catch the baby dinosaur to return it to its Mummy!  They showed great imagination and teamwork .

At the end of the day we were able to reunite the baby dinosaur with its Mummy.

We learnt lots about dinosaurs, and enjoyed learning the new words, herbivore, carnivore and omnivore.

We enjoyed reading dinosaur stories including 'Gigantosaurus.'  We discovered how dinosaurs became extinct.

Scooter Workshops

The children had great fun taking part in a scooter workshop.  They learnt about safety, travelling in a straight line, stopping and even trying a few tricks!

Frosty Days!

Its been a busy cold start to 2022, we have been looking at the book 'The Emperors Egg' and learning about the Emperor penguin, Antarctica and different climates.  We have enjoyed the frosty mornings exploring the school grounds - we even found footprints in the frost!

In maths we have been looking at how shapes can be made from other shapes, we practised our cutting skills too while trying to make different shapes from bread.  We then had to make the shapes fit back together again.

Teal Class Christmas 2021

It has a been a busy few weeks in school, retelling the Christmas story, preparing for our Nativity, making cards, decorations and Christmas treats!

We finished the term with a fun morning on the bouncy castles, thank you Total Bounce!

Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and a very Happy and Healthy New Year.

Summer 2021

Term 5

This term one of our class texts has been 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar'.  We have been story tellers retelling the story, scientists - watching our class caterpillars grow and food tasters, trying some of the different foods from the story.  Watermelon was liked by most people...pickled gherkins were not so popular!  The children used words to describe them....'spicy, sweet, juicy, sour, delicious and disgusting!'

We have been incredibly proud of our youngest learners as they adapted so quickly to remote learning.  We have enjoyed a daily class zoom call where children have been able to take part in different activities and keep in regular touch with their friends.

Here they all are showing their brilliant rockets they made as part of our space theme.

As part of our screen free Friday afternoons the children have enjoyed learning new skills, and making the most of the winter sunshine.

We created our own Kandinsky style hearts, both at home and at school.

Our EYFS Key Worker Bubble art work and beautiful artwork from Gabriele at home.

Something very exciting happened in EYFS...the chicks we had been incubating, hatched!  The children watched some of the chicks hatch and had the opportunity to carefully hold the baby chicks.

EYFS love learning outdoors.  They enjoy exploring Forest School and the school grounds.  Inspired by the artist Andy Goldsworthy, the children created their own natural artwork using the Autumn leaves they collected on a walk.

We have been using iPads to support independent learning, taking photographs and recording ourselves.
